You have found a wedding film that moves you. Now you need to know whether the person behind it is the right fit for your own celebration.
After filming more than 400 weddings, I believe the best conversations begin with what a couple hopes to remember. These questions help turn that conversation into a clear plan, whether you are considering Spetrino Pictures or another filmmaker.
1. Can we watch a complete example of what we would receive?
A short promotional reel may combine the strongest moments from many weddings. Ask for a complete film representative of the collection you are considering. Listen to the voices, notice the pacing and consider whether you connect with the way the story unfolds.
2. Who will film our wedding, and who will edit it?
Clarify whether the filmmaker you meet will be there on the day. Ask how additional shooters are assigned and who shapes the final edit. At Spetrino Pictures, I personally guide planning and editing, with two filmmakers at each wedding.
3. How many hours do we need for our actual timeline?
Share the preparation, ceremony and reception addresses, along with the events you most want covered. Ask how travel fits into the hours and what happens if the schedule runs late. It is easier to make thoughtful choices before the wedding than to improvise them during it.
4. How will you record our vows and speeches?
Sound is a significant part of how a wedding feels on film. Ask how the filmmaker plans to capture the ceremony and speeches, coordinate with the officiant or DJ, and handle an outdoor setting. A useful answer should explain the approach in language you understand.
5. How much direction should we expect?
Some couples enjoy guided portraits; others prefer to forget the camera is there. Explain your comfort level. Ask how the filmmaker works with your photographer and how much time is usually set aside for filmed portraits. You should understand what the experience will feel like.
6. Can the film include our story before the wedding?
If you want interviews, childhood photographs or home videos included, bring this up early. Ask what is supported, how materials should be supplied and whether it changes the collection. The Legacy Film is built around a pre-wedding conversation and personal photographs woven into the celebration.
7. Exactly which films are included?
Ask about the main film, trailer, full ceremony and speeches separately. Confirm approximate lengths and whether raw footage is included or available. Do not assume that a “full wedding film” means every moment recorded will be delivered.
8. What is the delivery timeline and revision process?
Get an expected delivery window in writing. Ask how you will receive the files, how to download them and what a revision includes. For our current introductory collection, one consolidated revision round is included; the proposal confirms delivery timing and scope.
9. What happens if something unexpected occurs?
Ask about illness, equipment problems, weather changes and a venue or date change. Also ask how footage is backed up and retained. You are looking for clear explanations of the filmmaker’s actual arrangements and contract terms, rather than a promise that nothing could ever go wrong.
10. What is the total price, and what secures the date?
Confirm the agreed coverage, any travel charges, additional-hour arrangements, payment schedule and cancellation or postponement terms. Ask whether the date is held during your decision process or only once the booking requirements are completed.
Make room for a personal conversation
Once the practical questions are answered, ask yourself whether you feel comfortable with this person. Your filmmaker will be close by during intimate, emotional moments. Feeling heard matters.
